At BASIX Centre for Human Excellence, we believe in the foundational principles of Transactional Analysis: people are OK, people can think, and people can change. Every human being is born with the innate capacity to choose, grow, and lead a meaningful and fulfilling life. Yet, many people find themselves feeling stuck, conflicted, or overwhelmed by the challenges they face in their personal lives, relationships, careers, or health. They often know they possess greater potential but struggle to move beyond limiting beliefs, emotional pain, or deeply ingrained patterns of thinking and behaviour.

Eric Berne, the founder of Transactional Analysis, described autonomy as the ability to perceive reality exactly as it is in the here and now. Autonomy is expressed through three essential capacities: Awareness, Spontaneity, and Intimacy. Awareness enables us to see ourselves, others, and our circumstances with clarity. Spontaneity gives us the freedom to respond authentically rather than being driven by old habits or unconscious scripts. Intimacy allows us to build genuine, meaningful, and trusting relationships. Much of our therapeutic work is centred on helping individuals reconnect with these capacities so they can make conscious choices and experience greater freedom in their lives.

A familiar metaphor in Transactional Analysis is that we are all born as princes and princesses, possessing inherent worth and potential. However, through our early experiences with family, society, and significant relationships, we often make unconscious decisions about ourselves and the world. Over time, these decisions can lead us to believe that we are less capable, less worthy, or somehow inadequate—as though we have become frogs instead of the princes or princesses we truly are. These beliefs shape how we think, feel, relate to others, and make decisions throughout our lives, often limiting our ability to experience fulfilment and happiness.

Our therapeutic approach begins with understanding the unique story each client brings. Using Transactional Analysis as our primary framework, we work collaboratively to explore the client's experiences, identify recurring life patterns, and understand how these patterns influence their thoughts, emotions, behaviours, relationships, and overall well-being. We also explore how earlier experiences may continue to affect the present, including the connections between body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Depending on the client's needs and the therapeutic agreement, we may integrate approaches such as Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Clinical Hypnotherapy, and, where appropriate and chosen by the client, Spiritual Past Life Regression as part of the therapeutic process.

Therapy begins with an initial consultation lasting approximately 45 to 60 minutes. This session provides an opportunity for both therapist and client to understand one another, explore the concerns that have brought the client to therapy, clarify expectations, and determine whether therapy is the most appropriate form of support. It is also a space where clients can ask questions, understand the therapeutic process, and make an informed decision about moving forward. If another form of support would better meet the client's needs, an appropriate referral will be recommended.

Following the consultation, therapy continues through sessions that are mutually agreed upon by the client and therapist. Each session is tailored to the client's goals, pace, and readiness for change. Throughout the therapeutic journey, we provide a space that is non-judgemental, inclusive, confidential, and emotionally safe. Many clients experience this environment as being different from what they have encountered elsewhere in their lives. It creates an opportunity to pause, reflect, and explore deeper aspects of themselves without fear of criticism or rejection. As clients become more aware of their internal patterns, they begin to challenge limiting beliefs, experiment with healthier ways of thinking and behaving, and develop greater emotional resilience and personal responsibility.

At a deeper level, therapy invites clients to explore the life scripts they unconsciously created in response to earlier experiences. Through increased awareness and intentional choice, they begin to rewrite those scripts, creating new beliefs, values, emotions, and behaviours that are more aligned with who they wish to become. In Transactional Analysis, this process is supported through permission, protection, and potency—creating the conditions in which genuine healing and lasting transformation can occur.

The journey of therapy can be likened to the metamorphosis of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. Just as the cocoon provides a protected space for transformation, therapy offers a safe environment where individuals can slow down, reflect, heal, and grow. As this process unfolds, many clients rediscover their inherent worth, recognising that they were never truly frogs but have always possessed the potential of the prince or princess within. They emerge with greater clarity, confidence, emotional freedom, and a renewed sense of purpose, equipped to live more authentically and create the life they desire.
